Siem Reap doesn’t see cultural events happening every day, let alone ones that are free to attend. But, if you’ve been itching to watch some French-speaking movies, then now is the perfect opportunity. The Francophone Film Festival, organized by Alliance Française Siem Reap, is back for its second edition and promises to be an exciting showcase of French cinema.
The first edition of the Francophone Film Festival was a resounding success in 2020, and this year, Alliance française is taking on the challenge once again. The festival promises to be even more thrilling, showcasing a selection of thirteen French-language films from European, Asian, African, and North American countries at the Legend Heritage Walk cinema.
Four Days of Fantastic French Cinema
Kicking off the festival with a bang on Friday 28th April, the opening ceremony will feature a preview screening of “Apsara”, a Cambodian cinema gem directed by His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk in 1966, under the high presidency of Her Majesty the Queen Mother.
The closing ceremony on Monday 1st May will feature the screening of “Le Bleu de Caftan,” followed by a dinner cocktail at Embassy restaurant (by invitation). The festival will celebrate the diverse cultures and geographic regions of the Francophonie while highlighting the rich heritage of Cambodian cinema.
Expect the attendance of cinema professionals from Southeast Asia and other Francophone territories, including notable personalities from the industry. This festival is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of Francophone cinema and discover the emerging talent in the industry.
